Mutfwang Urges Corps Members To Be Advocates Of Peace

News Investigators/ Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has urged newly sworn-in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to Plateau to be advocates of peace and champions of national unity.

Mr Mutfwang made the call on Friday in Jos at the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 NYSC Batch “B” stream II corps members.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Miusa Ashoms, advised them to build bridges of friendship that transcended religion, ethnicity and bigotry.

He said that such attributes were salient for national unity and integration.

Mr Mutfwang stated that the safety of all residents and visitors remained a top priority for his administration, and the government had strengthened collaborations with security agencies to ensure that peace and stability were sustained across the state.

The governor said that the orientation programme was designed to inculcate in them the spirit of discipline, self-reliance and leadership skills expected for their future operations.

He, therefore, urged them to pay special attention to all orientation course content and adhere to the bye-laws of the NYSC scheme.

Mr Mutfwang enjoined the corps members to exhibit the highest level of loyalty, dedication, discipline and commitment to the nation during and after their service year.

The governor assured the NYSC of the government’s continuous support of providing an enabling environment for the youth to maximise their potentials.

Earlier, the NYSC Plateau Coordinator, Jonathan Yavala, said the orientation programme is one of the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC.

Mr Yavala said the orientation programme was designed to equip the corps members adequately for the challenges ahead of the service year and beyond.

The state coordinator described the orientation course as highly regimented.

He explained that it is comprised of physical trainings, intellectual/motivational lectures, sporting activities and social activities and Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED).

According to him, the corps members would be introduced to healthy competitions to learn the spirit of sportsmanship.

He added that while on camp, the corps members would also be co-opted into the administrative operations of the camp to further enhance the desired leadership and citizenship skills required of them.

The state coordinator implored the newly sworn-in corps members to actively participate in all camp activities while creating avenues for long-lasting relationships.

Mr Yavala commended the Plateau government for providing an enabling environment for the scheme to thrive.
