Multiple Explosions Hit Jos

The relative peace being experience in Jos, capital of Plateau state was again shattered on Tuesday with a multiple explosions rocking the ancient city.

The multiple explosions believed to be from Improved Explosive Device (IED) occurred along the busy Jos Main Market, at about 3:10 p.m. around the railway crossing on Ahmadu Bello way.

Security sources said, the explosions took place at about 3:00 p.m. in quick succession at an interval of 15 minutes, at the Railway Terminus near the temporary site of the University of Jos Teaching Hospital.

“We just heard a deafening bang and a thick smoke envelop the whole place,” an eyewitness told our correspondent on telephone.

It is not clear yet, the number of casualty affected by the blast, it is believed that many shops and commercial vehicles were affected.

The Joint Task Force JTF has since arrived the scene, “ambulances have also arrived with emergency service providers,” the sources added.

Commander of the Special Task Force, STF, on Jos crisis, Major General Dave Enetie, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria but did not give casualty figure.

The second explosive was said to have been hidden inside a tricycle parked close to a pedestrian bridge.
