News Investigators/ MTN Nigeria says it will take its Data on Trial Initiative to Abuja to address customers’ concerns about data consumption, billing transparency and trust in telecommunications services.
The company said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.
It said the forum would hold on Oct. 26 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on the sidelines of the Nigerian Economic Summit.
According to the statement, the initiative will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, media professionals, technology experts and consumer advocates to examine issues shaping subscribers’ experiences with mobile data services.
It said the forum would provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss consumer concerns and encourage constructive engagement between telecommunications operators and their customers.
“Data on Trial is a courtroom-style public forum in which journalists, influencers and consumer advocates act as the ‘prosecution’, MTN’s senior executives respond in its ‘defence’, and an independent assessor weighs the evidence,” the statement said.
The initiative seeks to examine public concerns about data consumption from different perspectives, with emphasis on transparency and customer confidence in telecommunications services.
The statement said that mobile data had become central to how Nigerians work, communicate, access information and participate in the digital economy, making clear communication about data usage increasingly important.
It said telecommunications operators needed to pay attention to customers’ experiences, explain data usage clearly and respond to concerns raised by subscribers.
The Abuja edition follows previous sessions held in Lagos in June and at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in September.
According to MTN, the initiative is part of efforts to sustain open conversations about data consumption and the relationship between telecommunications operators and their customers.
The company said continued engagement among operators, consumers and other stakeholders would be important in addressing changing customer expectations and improving the experience of using data services.
