PDP National Chairman

By Sadiq Umar – A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sacked the acting National Chairman of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, ordering him to vacate the seat.

To vacate seat within 14days.
To vacate seat within 14days.

In a suit filed by a Ahmed Gulak, former Political Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Justice Huseini Baba-Yusuf, ruled that the first respondent (Secondus) was illegally occupying the seat as PDP acting National Chairman.

Gulak in his suit had argued that party’s Constitution zoned the office of the party’s National chairman to the North-Eastern part of the country and that the occupant ought not to be Secondus, who hails from the South-South geo-political zone.

The former Chairman of the party, Ahmadu Muazu, who is from North East (Bauchi state) resigned his position after the party lost the 2015 presidential election.

Justice Baba-Yusuf upheld the argument, ordering Mr. Secondus to vacate the office and hand over the leadership of the party to either the complainant (Gulak) or another competent and suitable party member from the North Eastern zone within 14 days. Gulak is from Adamawa State.

It would be recalled the immediate past National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu was forced to resign from the position following the controversy that trailed the party’s loss in the last general elections.
