(NEWS INVESTIGATORS) A Sharia Court ,sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, on Monday sentenced one Auwal Yusuf to eight months imprisonment for snatching a handbag from one Maryam Aminu.
The convict, who resides at Unguwan Dosa area of Kaduna, had pleaded guilty to the charges bordering on conspiracy and theft.
The judge, Malam Murtala Nasir, who summarily tried and convicted Yusuf, however, gave him N15,000 option of fine.
Nasir also ordered the convict to pay N51,500 compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Aliyu Ibrahim had told the court that the convict snatched the bag at Rabah Road, but was caught.
The prosecutor said that the bag contained Infinix Hot7 cell phone and N4,500 cash.
“He tried to escape and the phone fell down and broke; we want him to pay for the phone worth N37,000,return the N4,500 he stole from the bag and pay N10,000 for instilling fear in the victim”, he told the court.
Ibrahim said that the offence contravened Section 139 of the Sharia Penal Code.( NAN)
