Lawmakers impeach Ogun Speaker, Oluomo, over alleged misappropriation

The lawmakers of the Ogun State House of Assembly, have impeached the Speaker, Hon. Kunle Oluomo, for alleged misappropriation of funds.

The lawmakers elected Hon. Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda) as his replacement.

The Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi (APC-Yewa South) presided over the Tuesday’s plenary session which ousted the Speaker.

Eighteen out of the 26 members of the Assembly voted to remove Oluomo who was accused of embezzlement, misappropriation and others.

The lawmaker representing (APC-Yewa North 1, Mr Adegoke Adeyanju, moved the motion for Oluomo’s impeachment, and it was seconded by Mr Ademola Adeniran (APC-Sagamu II).

The new Speaker, Elemide promised to put on his best in the service of the state,

“We are law abiding legislators. We want the world to know that there is now a changed in the leadership of the House of Assembly,” he said.
Elemide, who said that 18 lawmakers supported his emergence as speaker, appealed to residents of the state to remain calm.


“We are in custody of all the authority of the house. We are assuring that the new leadership will support our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“I can assure you that the governor did not know anything about this impeachment,” he said.
