Lagos Doctor Who Treated Ebola Patient Now Infested

One of the doctors who attended to late Patrick Sawyer, a Liberia national with the first case of Ebola virus disease in Lagos, last week, has contracted the deadly virus.

The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu who confirmed the news said, “This new case is one of the doctors who attended to the Liberian Ebola patient who died.”

The physician whose identity in not immediately known becomes the second Ebola case confirmed in the country.

Two American doctors who have been treating victims of the dreaded virus in Liberia have also been flow to US for treatment having been infested.

Sawyer, a Liberian and Consultant with the Liberian Ministry of Finance died in a Lagos hospital last two weeks ago shortly after he was diagnosed of the deadly disease.

He had flew into Nigeria to attend an international event but collapsed at the airport and was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed to have been infected with the virus.

The Lagos state government and the hospital authority have since taken steps to forestall the spread of the disease in the hospital by shutting down the facility and putting those in contact with late Sawyer under watch.

The Minister has again directed that the dead body of Ebola victims should not be allowed entry to the country.
