Kano Custodial Centre Celebrates 61 Inmates Who Memorised Complete Qur’an

News Investigators/ The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, said 61 inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kurmawa, have completed Qur’an memorisation and recitation.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nassarawa, on Monday in Kano.

The PRO quoted the Controller of Corrections in Kano State, Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, saying that the feat reflected the service’s commitment to reform, rehabilitation and reintegration.

“This aligns with the provisions of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019,” he said.

Mr Yusuf-Lakpene said the graduates comprised 55 males and six females.

“Many of them have little or no prior knowledge of Qur’anic recitation before admission.

“Through discipline, commitment and structured religious instruction, the inmates achieved full memorisation of the Holy Qur’an.

“This shows the impact of faith-based rehabilitation programmes,” he said.

Yusuf-Lakpene said NCoS, in collaboration with the Chokali Humanitarian Foundation, presented welfare packages to each graduate.

“The packages include new clothes, mattresses, blankets and financial support.

“The items are to encourage personal development and successful reintegration into society,” the controller noted.

He commended the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, for promoting educational, vocational and moral programmes nationwide.

Yusuf-Lakpene said the initiatives equipped inmates with knowledge, skills and values needed after release.

“The NCoS remains committed to reforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates through education, vocational training, moral guidance and faith-based programmes.

“This promotes public safety and contributes to national development”, the controller stated.

The Officer-in-Charge of Kurmawa Centre, Mr Ibrahim Isah-Rambo, appreciated the Kano command and Chokali Foundation for supporting the programme.

The Chairperson of the Kano State Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeji, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to inmate welfare.

She commended Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf for his continued support.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, CSC Mohd Ali-Kibiya, urged the graduates to uphold discipline and moral values, while calling on all inmates to pray for restoration of peace, unity and progress in Nigeria.
