News Investigators/ Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday, rejected the 2026 budget proposal of Soba Local Government Area Council, citing irregularities and inconsistencies.
Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation and Implementation, Yunusa Shehu-Pambegua, said during the budget defence that the proposal contained discrepancies that must be addressed before approval.
Earlier, Chairman of Soba Local Government Area, Mohammed Lawal- Shehu, attributed the inconsistencies to salary increases recorded during the year under review.
He explained that the approved budget for the outgone year was over N4 billion, while the budget performance stood at over N7 billion.
Shehu added that the proposed budget for 2026 was over N6 billion, representing a reduction compared to the previous year’s performance.
Contributing, Deputy Chief Whip and member of the committee, Mahmood Sama’ila, urged the council to review the budget in order to align with established guidelines.
The committee unanimously resolved that the budget be revisited to correct the anomalies before harmonisation and subsequent approval.
