News Investigators/ The Chabad of Nigeria says it plans to establish a virtual classroom centre and engage youths in effective teaching and learning to promote growth of education in Nigeria.
Rabbi Israel Uzan, Rabbi of Israel to Nigeria, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
NAN reports that The Chabad of Nigeria is a division of the global Jewish assistance and relief network working through ChabadAid, a humanitarian programme of the Jewish community.
According to Uzan, a virtual classroom is an online learning environment in which students and teachers interact using technical tools provided by the software.
“We believe in online school and everybody understands that, under COVID-19 pandemic, we can do a lot via online.
“Now, the main problem of education in Nigeria has to do with infrastructure and teachers; there are inadequate competent teachers and most of them are poorly paid.
“As such, some teachers do not come to school as and when due; sometimes it is expensive because they have to pay the teachers.
“So, we want to make a big virtual centre for teaching and learning online in Abuja; this is a project that we believe will start in 2021.
“The project is to provide school for every child in Nigeria, but the teacher will teach online and soon we are going to create school infrastructure everywhere.
“It will be regular class with many children, but the teacher will be on screen camera and audio speaker, as well as the children in a classroom.”
He explained that the virtual classroom would involve a teacher, teaching from any part of the world, who would be connected to the students in the room via a video conference.
He said that the Jewish community would pay the teachers while the school provides the time table, classroom and supervisor to guide the children in the learning process.
He said arrangements had been concluded to commence operation of the virtual classroom.
Uzan said that the Jewish community would also provide nurses, for healthcare services that required them.
According to him, the nurses will take information of patient’s vitals and send such through internet while doctors will diagnose immediately. (NAN)
