JAMB: Lead City Law Admissions Not Recognised On CAPS

News Investigators/ The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disassociated itself from the purported admission of candidates into the Law Faculty of Lead City University,  Ibadan.

It said the admissions were not given by the board and therefore invalid.

According to the board, the admissions were carried out in spite a five-year suspension of the university’s Law programme.

JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin,  in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said that the admissions were not conducted through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

He said that any admission not processed through CAPS was void and could not be recognised by the board.

“The institution is not authorised to admit candidates into the programme until the expiration of the suspension.

“Such admissions are therefore void as they were not processed through CAPS and are unknown to the board,” he said.

Mr Benjamin said the development underscored the need for candidates to heed JAMB’s repeated advice not to accept admission offers outside CAPS.

He added that candidates admitted through irregular means had no legitimate claim, noting that they would be regarded as complicit in the process.

“For the umpteenth time, the board strongly advises prospective candidates, in their own interest, not to accept any admission not processed through CAPS as the board will neither recognise nor condone such admissions,” he said.

Benjamin advised candidates who had been offered admission outside CAPS to disregard such offers and obtain the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application to pursue legitimate admission through the appropriate process.

He also warned that attempts by some universities to transfer illegally admitted candidates to other institutions through inter-university transfer would not be recognised by the board.

“For a transfer to be valid, the candidate must have been properly admitted in the first instance through CAPS.

“JAMB will not endorse any inter-university transfer without initial admission on CAPS,” he said.

Benjamin reiterated that the board would continue to discharge its responsibilities in accordance with the relevant laws, rules and regulations guiding admissions into tertiary institutions in the country.
