Israel Pledges For Nigeria’s Counter Terrorism War

Speaker of the Israel’s parliament, Knasset, Yuli-Yoel Edelstein has reiterated its country’s commitment to Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to rout the Boko Haram insurgents before the end of the year.

Mr Edelstein told Nigeria’s Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara that its country is solidly behind Nigeria in her effort to end insurgency in the country.

According to a statement issued by the Media Aide to Speaker Dogara, Mr. Turaki Hassan, Edelstein made the pledge during a meeting with Hon. Dogara on the sidelines of the ongoing Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in New York, said the world must unite to fight terrorism.

Dogara had solicited for Israel’s support to help end Boko Haram and other security challenges, in addition to attracting investment in agriculture, solid minerals, energy and tourism.

Dogara also called for the establishment of Nigeria-Israel parliamentary friendship group to help deepen bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Responding, Mr. Edelstein, said Israel will continue to support Nigeria’s fight against terrorism as according to him, there must be global action against terrorists.

Mr. Edelstein said terrorism is a threat to all nations and as such the world must unite to fight it saying, “we must unite to fight terrorism and not to divide them into their terrorist and our terrorists.”
