INVESTIGATION: Senator, Rep Get N21.5 million, N17.5 million Each As Wardrobe Allowance

Each of the newly inaugurated senators are to receive the sum of N21.5 million as wardrobe allowance on resumption of plenary next week, while each member of the House of Representatives will collect N17.5 million under the same heading.

The newly inaugurated members of the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives are expected to receive their allowances including wardrobe, housing, furniture and vehicle to enable them settle down for legislative business‎. 

The various allowances, it was gathered, amounting to over N9 billion, has been set aside for this purpose.

According to our findings, each Senator will receive N21.5 million as wardrobe allowance while each member of the House of Representatives will get N17.5 million. The wardrobe allowance is paid once in four years.

Also, each of the Senators will be paid N4, 052,800 million as housing allowance annually while their counterpart in the House of Representatives will pocket N3, 970,425 million each annually.

For furniture, each of the senators will receive get N6, 079,200 million and N5, 955,637.50 million for each of the House of Reps member.

For vehicle allowance Senators are entitled to N8, 105,600 million each while Representatives are entitled to N7, 940,850.50 million each. 

However, the Senate President and Deputy, House Speaker and Deputy are not entitled to housing and furniture allowances. The Federal Capital Territory Administration will provide them official residences and furnish same.
