•••Tinubu Orders IGP, DSS, NSA Arrest People Hoarding Food
As part of the desperate efforts to arrest the growing insecurity in the country, the Federal Government has given indications that it might consider the call for state police.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made the revelation while speaking with journalists after meeting between President Bola Tinubu and governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.
Those who joined the briefing with the minister were Governors Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Ubah Sani (Kaduna) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
He said that the President and the governors have resolved to work out the modalities for the adoption of state police.
He stressed that the presidency and the governors would hold further discussions on the possibility of state police.
However, he noted that while meetings have been arranged to determine the modalities for state police, no concrete decision has been made.
The Minister noted that the Federal Government has set up a committee to examine the outcome of the deliberations at the meeting on the issue.
The Information Minister added that the president directed the national security adviser, the director general state services and the inspector general of police to work with governors to stop the hoarding of food items in the country.
Idris said that the President Tinubu has ordered his security team, comprising the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Director General of the State Security Service, Yusuf Bichi, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu to work with governors to ensure that the hoarding of food items for purposes of extra profits is stopped immediately.
He said that meeting also resolved to have increased number and activities of forest rangers in states to improve security for farmers; deepen investments in food production and do more to get the youth more gainfully employed.
