INEC TO MEET WITH POLITICAL PARTIES Over PRIMARIES TODAY

The Independent National Electoral Commission will by 3pm at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, meet with the leaders of the 18 registered political parties.

The Network gathered that the meeting is being arranged by the Inter-Party Advisory Council.

Majority of the parties will be conducting their Presidential primaries this weekend, including the two major political parties in the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, the parties are still going on with the state primaries. The conduct of the primaries has been criticised by the public, including the former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

The agenda of the INEC meeting with the parties is still not clear, but it may not be unconnected with a call for reviewing of the INEC timetable.

Meanwhile, political parties under the umbrella of IPAC and political State actors have called on INEC to extend the deadline for the primaries.

But Civil Society Organisations, former chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega and others have warned the Commission against tampering with the timetable

INEC had before now released the timetable and fixed April 4 to June 3 for the election of flag bearers of all political parties for the 2023 elections.
