Attahiru Jega, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission

Senators of All Progressive Congress (APC) yesterday kicked against election time table release last weekend by Independent Electoral Commission saying the time table only favored sitting President.

The Senators who spoke separately to Newsinvestigators lamented that the Political parties were not consulted in the arrangement adding that the INEC would hold till conclusion of the amendment of electoral law.

Senator Abu Ibrahim said that it is impossible for the Presidential candidate for conclude its campaign within 3 months lamenting that the arrangement only favored sitting president.

Abu said,”my personal observation is time table on campaign, 3 months is impossible for candidate to go round the country, it will only favored sitting president, personally I have my own idea which seeks to amend electoral act. why can’t we live the election till march, APC is not part of it, it should  be reversed.”

Senator Ajayi Borofice said that it is premature for INEC to release its timetable at this particular point in time adding INEC should have allowed conclusion of electoral law before releasing time table for the elections.

Borofice added that there supposed to be consultation with political parties before releasing such time table. He said the time is formulated in favour of a particular political party.

Borofice,” it is not feasible, it is being formulated in favour of a particular party that has its candidate for election, everybody knows that is going to run, we have not nominated our candidates. All the election should be held in  one day”
