A female Aspirant to the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the next democratic dispensation, Princess Mariam Onuoha representing Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency of Imo State, has called on her male counterparts to step down for women in the race.
Mrs Onuoha made the appeal on Wednesday, while drumming support for gender equality in governance.
He stressed that women participation in politics has gone down in Nigeria and demand steps against the dwindling participation of women in politics in the country.
Mrs Onuoha made the appeal in Abuja on Wednesday, when she declared her intention to run for the office of the Speaker.
She lamented that over 55 percent of valid votes casts in the last election were by women wondering how they were being relegated to the background when it comes to aspiring for positions in the polity.
She promised to bring her robust political experience to bear on the system if elected speaker.
He assured that having held multiple political appointments before being elected as a member of the 9th and 10th Assemblies, she would deliver quality service.
Onuoha argued that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has always empowered women in all spheres of life, and having picked a woman as his running mate as the governor of Lagos State, would be interested in a female Speaker.
According to her, Tinubu had always supported his amiable wife to become a senator in the parliament in line with the goals of the UN’S 35% affirmative.
