HERDERS KILL ONE, INJURE MANY DURING INVASION OF EDO COMMUNITY 

Armed men suspected to be Fulani Herders have killed one l Osesa and several others seriously injured as they invaded Sobe Community in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was gathered from a source in the community that the incident happened when the herdsmen invaded the house of the deceased in the evening and opened fire on him and everyone in sight. 

The armed men were said to have also kidnapped unspecified number of persons at Saint Thomas Moore Primary School in the area.

The source who preferred to be anonymous said, “The herdsmen invaded the community, killing Osesa in his house and injuring many others. They later left Omesa’s resident and moved closer to St Thomas Moore Primary School where they also kidnapped some persons.

He said “The rate of killing by the Fulani hersdmen in Sobe community in Owan West Local Government has become too many,” he added

Speaking further on the incident,  a resident of the community disclosed that the people approached a police checkpoint close to the scene of the attack but the police did not offer any help.

“When the attack happened, most people in the community went to the mobile police at a nearby check point and they refused to help. 

“Even the new police divisional headquarters created in the community, housing more than 30 policemen have no impact because they have done nothing to halt the attacks on the  community.

“We call on Governor Godwin Obaseki as the chief security officer of the state, to liaise with the Federal Government so that a mini barracks can be created in the community before the community turns into a grave yard,” he stated.

It is on record that the latest attack brings to seven the number of times suspected herdsmen descended on the community.

Five persons have so far lost their  lives during the last three attacks. 

Among the victims of the attacks was a boy who was kidnapped and is yet to be rescued.

The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) of the State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, when contacted said the command is not aware of the attack.
