In a commando style, members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Monday morning impeached the Speaker, Mr. Chukwuma Nwazunku, just as it elected its first female speaker, Mr. Helen Nwaobasi.

Nwazunku was reportedly impeached by 18 out of the 24 members of the Assembly who accused him of high-handedness and gross misconduct.

The well-planned impeachment was hatched early morning following meetings which lasted till early hours of Monday.

As part of the plots, the aggrieved members convened at plenary as early as 8 a.m., first lifted the suspension placed on three of its members before impeaching Nwazunku.

The three members are Hon Frank Onwe, Hon Eni Uduma Chime and deputy speaker, Hon Blaise Orji.

Hon Frank Onwe moved the motion for the Speaker’s impeachment which was seconded by the minority leader, Hon Enyi C. Enyi.

Thereafter, Hon Eni Uduma Chima representing Afikpo South West moved the motion for election of Hon Helen Nwaobasi representing Abakaliki South state constituency.
The motion was seconded Hon Jerry Obasi.
