Gunmen Storm Burial Event, Displace Mourners; Abduct One, In Anambra

Heavily armed men on Friday again attacked mourners at a burial ceremony in Ndingbu village, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra state.
One person was also abducted during the pandemonium in the area.
It was gathered that the gunmen had targeted vigilante operatives who were at the ceremony to maintain law and provide security.
 Sources close to the community disclosed that the gunmen had also visited Utuh community in the same local government area, where they attacked an office used by vigilante operatives, setting it ablaze and also abducting one person.
The details of the attacks are still sketchy as at the time of this report.
The latest attack came barely three weeks after a similar incident took place at Ebenebe community in Awka North local government area where over 20 mourners were reportedly killed and many Injured in a bloody secret cult war.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga when contacted on Saturday confirmed the two incidents.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng had ordered manhunt on the armed men who allegedly attacked vigilante operatives during the  burial at Ndingbu village at Nnewi town.
Ikenga explained that teams of the; Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorist unit, Special forces and others, were deployed for the operation, adding that normalcy has been restored to the troubled area.
A cording to him,“Although no notification was given to the Police about the planned burial, information reveals that the Vigilante groups where invited. 
“Further details received showed that the miscreants arrived the ceremony and starting shooting sporadically in attempt to disarm the vigilante operatives.”
“In another development, the hoodlums also attacked, Utuh Viligante office, abducted one of the staffs and set the Viligante Operation vehicle on fire,” he stated. 
The Command also assured that the police and other security agents are committed to providing security services in the state, even as he also urged residents of the area to help them with useful  information that would aid in the ongoing operation.
