Gunmen Invade Girls School, Abduct Scores In Zamfara

News Investigators/ Armed bandits have abducted hundreds of schoolgirls in Zamfara State, north west Nigeria.

The abduction took place at the earlier of Friday morning less than two weeks after the kidnapping of students and some staff members of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State.

The bandits had on Wednesday threatened to starve the Kagara hostages to death, accusing government of failure to accede to their demands for ransom.

Reports say about 300 students were abducted in Government Girls School, Jangede in the latest round of mass kidnapping in northern Nigeria.

The BBC Hausa Service is reporting that the school, Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was attacked by several armed men.

A parent whose two of her daughters are students in the school confirmed to journalist that the daughters, Mansura and Sakina, were among those abducted.

“I’m on my way to Jangebe now to see the situation myself. I was told they invaded the school around 1am,” he was quoted as saying.

Commissioner of Information in the State, Suleiman Tunau-Anka, confirmed the abduction when called by reporters.

However, the Police is yet to speak on the incident.
