Govs, Ministers Pay Tribute To APC Nat’l Secretary At Mother’s Final Burial

News Investigators/ Dignitaries on Saturday paid tribute to the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Ajibola Basiru, at the final burial rites of his mother, Alhaja Sidikatu Basiru, in Osogbo.

Among those present at the Fidau prayer were Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaja Sidikatu Basiru died on June 28 at the age of 96.

In his sermon, Sheikh Abdul-Lateef Yusuf urged people to live righteous lives, noting that wealth, status and worldly possessions do not accompany the dead.

He said only one’s deeds endure beyond death and count in the hereafter, adding that giving deceased parents a befitting burial attracts divine reward.

In his remarks, Basiru expressed gratitude to God for the fulfilled life of his mother and thanked dignitaries for their support and presence.

Also speaking, a family representative, Alhaji Isiaka Basiru, appreciated the prayers and solidarity shown by guests.

Other dignitaries at the event included Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Osun APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji; Oyo APC governorship candidate, Sen. Sharafadeen Alli.

A former Deputy Governor of Osun, Mrs Titi-Laoye Ponle; former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; and the Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, were also in attendance.

Traditional and religious leaders at the event included the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun; the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Olabomi; and the Chief Imam of Osun, Sheikh Rabiu Animasahun. Representatives of the governors of Delta and Edo states were also in attendance.
