Gombe Govt ASUU Reach Agreement, Paving Way For Reopening Of Gombe Varsity

News Investigators/ The Gombe State Government says it has successfully reached an agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University branch.

This followed a resolution reached today with Deputy Governor, Manassah Daniel Jatau, leading the government negotiation team.

“This marks the end of negotiations and set in motion preparations for the immediate reopening of the institution,” Gombe Government House’ spokesman, Ismaila Uba Misilli said in a statement Friday evening.

“The ASUU Zonal Coordinator, OA Timothy Namo, confirmed the agreement, stating that the union has accepted all terms outlined during the discussions,” Mr. Misilli said.

He added that the process for reopening the university would begin within the next week to restore academic activities that were halted during the strike.

The Deputy Governor commended the commitment of both the state government and ASUU toward resolving the impasse promptly, expressing optimism that the peaceful resolution will foster long-term collaboration between the government and the university unions to ensure uninterrupted academic activities in the future.

Recall that Gombe State Government has previously approved significant funds to address the outstanding needs of the university’s staff in its commitment to supporting education and improving the welfare of workers in tertiary institutions.
