ADAMAWA/By Tom Garba – The governor of Adamawa state, Sen Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow, has restated his administration’s commitment to empowering the girl child with the skills that can adequately prepare them to face future challenges.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Macauley Hunohashi, said Mr. Bindow assured of his commitment to using education as a tool to empower the girlchild.

He said he is not unaware of the plight of the girl child especially in times of conflict.

“I am aware of the need to empower the girl child with quality education and information that is the reason why my administration found it expedient to declare a state of emergency in the education sector,” Bindow said.

He said this year’s theme: “The power of the Adolescent Girl: Vision 2030”, will invigorate policies that will be a strong bedrock of the girl child, to be better mothers that can build a strong nation.

He maintained that the state government will continue to explore creative ways of partnering relevant agencies to tackle myriad challenges confronting the girl child in Adamawa state.

Mr. Bindow commended the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari in securing the release of the abducted Chibok girls, reassuring Nigerians that the federal government is not relenting in the effort to reunite those still in captivity with their families.

International Day of the Girl Child is a remarkable day worldwide being celebrated annually on Oct 11th, to highlight issues concerning the gender inequality facing young girls.
