News Investigators/ Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II has been deposed, bringing to a climax the long drawn battle between him and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje -led state government in Kano.
The State Executive Council meeting chaired by Mr. Ganduje announced after its special sitting Monday that Mr. Sanusi was removed as the Emir of Kano “for disrespecting” the office of the governor.
Secretary to the state government, Usman Alhaji said the removal, which was in line with “consultation with relevant stakeholders”, was with immediate effect.
There had been failed previous attempts to remove Mr. Sanusi, a former Central Bank governor for his criticism of the northern leadership elite, including the Kano governor who he allegedly worked against in the last governorship election in Kano.
Once, the emirate was fragmented into small unit with new emirs appointed by Mr. Ganduje take charge.
In a dramatic twist, Mr. Sanusi was also accused of financial misconduct after which he was dragged before the state anti-graft agency.
