FUEL SUBSIDY: NLC MOBILISES FOR NATIONWIDE STRIKE, SERVES NOTICE TO CHAIRPERSONS OF STATE CHAPTERS 

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on Friday served notice of a planned industrial action to all the The Chairpersons of all its State Councils and other allied groups for withdrawal of services on Wednesday, 7 June, 2023.

General Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, Esq, on Friday, issued the notice of mobilisation for the nationwide withdrawal of services by the Congress to protest against increase in fuel pump price.

Ugboaja in a statement said the decision to embark on the withdrawal of services by the Congress was sequel to an National Executive Council meeting held on 2nd June 2023.

According to him, it was decided at the meeting that the Congress would embark on a nationwide action and withdrawal of services, against the increase in the price of fuel across the 36 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

He pleaded with the members to know that the nationwide action would commence on Wednesday, 7th June, 2023, stressing that all State Chairpersons should mobilise workers for the action and ensure full compliance with the directives as services in both the public and private sector are expected to be fully withdrawn by Wednesday, 7th June, 2023.

The statement reads:

“We bring you greetings from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

“You will recall that arising from the National Executive Council meeting held on 2nd June 2023, it was decided that Congress will embark on a nationwide action and withdrawal of services, against the fraudulent increase in the price of fuel across the thirty-six states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the FCT.

“Please be informed that the nationwide action will commence on Wednesday, 7th June, 2023. To this effect, we request that all State Chairpersons should mobilise workers for the action and ensure full compliance with the directives as services in both the public and private sector are expected to be fully withdrawn by Wednesday, 7th June, 2023.

“All State Chairpersons are expected to fully abide by the decisions of the National Executive Council.
