FRSC Advises Motorists Against Route violation, use of unregistered number plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun Command, has advised motorists in the state against any form of route violations and the use of vehicles with unregistered number plates.

The state Sector Commander, Mr Leye Adegboyega, gave the advice on Monday in Osogbo on the sideline of a one day sensitisation rally held across some motor parks.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sensitisation campaign is part of activities to commemorate the 8th Global Road Safety week held annually.

Adegboyega said recent observations in the state revealed a high proliferation of unregistered vehicles, particularly cars and motorcycles.

He said that most vehicles bear dealers’ number plates which were mostly foreign numbers and driven about on daily basis by motorists, adding that such practice was against the corps rules.

“Car dealers contribute greatly to this abnormality by either moving round with such unregistered vehicles affixed with dealers’ plates or they sell vehicles out with dealer number plates and stickers.

“The buyers used these vehicles for indefinite lengths of time without properly registering such vehicles as required by law,” Adegboyega said.

He noted that the consequence of the use of unregistered vehicles was loss of revenue to the government.

“The revenue being lost by the Osun Government as a result of the use of unregistered vehicles is unquantifiable.

“Such revenue would have helped the government in its responsibility of providing good roads for residents particularly now that we have an unprecedented high level of road constructions being undertaken in the state.

“It is therefore not far-fetched to conclude that this development is depriving the government of good revenue that would have been channeled to the ongoing road projects,” he said.

Speaking on route violations, the sector commander warned against one way route violations by motorcycles or vehicles, adding that it had cost the lives of many innocent souls in the state.

He warned that the command would not hesitate to deal with any traffic offenders when apprehended by the corps.

Adegboyega, called for the collective responsibilities of transport stakeholders in the state in order to ensure the safety of lives and properties of innocent civilians.
