Former Rep. Usman Kumo, Defects With 4000 PDP Members To APC In Gombe

By Ibrahim Imam – A former Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, Usman Bello Kumo, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Party (APC) in Gombe.

Rep. Kumo, who represented Akko federal constituency from 2011 – 2015 defected alongside over 4000 of his supporters was received by a mammoth crowd of party faithful led by Senator Danjuma Goje.

At the occasion which took place in Akko Local Government Area, Gombe, the former Student Union president expressed disappointment at the Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo-led PDP government in the state, saying it is time for APC to take over the rein of government in Gombe state.

According to Rep. Kumo, “how can we be talking of International Conference Centre in a place like Gombe without due consideration for its marketability and value addition.” Even the one in Abuja, the nations capital had to be privatized for it to be able to generate revenue, he added.

He questioned the near 8 year scorecard of the PDP government in the state, saying the amount received as allocations from the federal purse when added to the loans obtained by the Dankwambo makes nonsense of any performance claim by the governor.

“What we are saying is that the so-called performance pales into irrelevance when you look at the debts overhang let alone joining that figure with what it received from the federation account in the last 7 years.

He also accused the governor of bad leadership, saying many of the distinguished sons and daughters of Gombe including former minister who were with him before had left the PDP because of his “high-handedness and poor management of human capital.”

Rep. Kumo, however, expressed gratitude to Senator Goje for what he described as “his magnanimity and large heartedness”, promising to work had for the success of the party in future elections.

Until his defection, Rep. Kumo was a Senior Special Assistant on Millennium Development Goals (MDG) to the governor of Gombe state.
