Former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Alao-Akala, has died at the age of 71.
Although details of the death of the former Governor are still sketchy, family sources confirmed that he died at an undisclosed hospital in Ogbomoso on Wednesday.
Born on June 3, 1950 at Ogbomoso, in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, Alao-Akala attended Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso. He also schooled at Kamina Barracks Middle School, Ghana.
The former police officer and politician was Governor of Oyo State from May 29, 2011 to May 29, 2011.
He was also Deputy Governor of Oyo State from May 2003 to January, 2006.
When the then Governor Rashidi Ladoja was impeached, Alaka was sworn in as Governor but had to step down after serving for 11 months with the Supreme Court verdict which overturned Ladoja’s impeachment.
In 2007, he contested under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party and served a full term in office.
