FLOOD RAVAGES BAYELSA COMMUNITIES , CUT OFF AMASSOMA ROAD CONNECTING AIRPORT, NDU TO YENAGOA

The raging flood in the country has wreaked heavy destruction on critical road infrastructure in Bayelsa State.

Several communities in the eight local government areas of the state and parts of the state capital are under water.

The areas worst hit by the flood are Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa local government areas.

The Network gathered that the state was witnessing heavy rainfall on Thursday for hours amidst rising water level.

The increasing water revel and the high current from the flood had already cut the Amassoma Road into two.

A video of the devastating effects of the flood water on the road shows that the University town of Amassoma and Bayelsa Airport have been cut into two.

A large gathering of stranded people were seen on either side of the road lamenting the huge damage done to the road.

In response to the groaning of those displaced by the flood, the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri approved N450m For Relocation, Relief Items For Displaced Persons in the state on Wednesday.

The state Commissioner for Environment and chairman of the Task Force on Flooding, Mr. Eselema Gbaranbiri, who disclosed this at the end of the 90th State Executive Council Meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, said affected persons in Yenagoa Local Government Area will be relocated to the Oxbow Lake area and the state heliport.
