By Sadiq Umar – President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki Tuesday announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr. Saraki made his defection known via his official Twitter handle, stating that his decision was after extensive consultations.

“I wish to inform Nigerians that, after extensive consultations, I have decided to take my leave of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Saraki wrote.

Similarly, Kwara Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed also dumped the APC and joined PDP few minutes after Mr. Saraki made public his exit from the ruling party.

Mr. Ahmed in his verified twitter account @AbdulfataAhmed, said he was responding to calls by “major stakeholders in the state as “APC can no longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of my people.”

“Following consultations and in response to calls by major stakeholders in the state, I have moved to the PDP as APC can no longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of my people.”

Both men were recently accused by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris of complicity in the Offa bank robbery, an allegation widely believed to be politically motivated.
