News Investigators/ The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has urged the Federal Government to implement the full consequential adjustments of the N70,000 National Minimum Wage.
The forum made the call in a statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Mr Andrew Emelieze, and General Secretary, Mr Ogundele Ayodele, issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
It also urged the Federal Government to pay all arrears arising from the adjustment, including outstanding allowances and other entitlements owed to federal workers.
FWF alleged that the N70,000 minimum wage, which took effect in 2024, had not been fully implemented across the federal public service.
According to the workers, only N40,000 was added uniformly to salaries across different levels, without full consequential adjustments reflecting the revised minimum wage.
“The situation had weakened workers’ purchasing power and worsened their living conditions amid rising costs of food, transportation, accommodation and other essential services.
“Federal workers have been battling for the full consequential adjustment of the new minimum wage since its implementation in July 2024.
“Only N40,000 was added to salaries across all levels, while the full consequential adjustment and other outstanding entitlements remain unresolved,” it said.
The forum urged FG to immediately implement the outstanding 40 per cent peculiar allowance and pay all arrears arising from the new wage structure.
It also called for the settlement of promotion arrears and other outstanding financial obligations, saying, “workers should not continue to bear the burden of delayed implementation.
“The Federal Government should urgently address all outstanding issues connected with the implementation of the new national minimum wage.
“Workers deserve a fair and equitable salary structure that reflects the consequential effect of the N70,000 minimum wage.”
The FWF further urged the government to review workers’ salaries, arguing that prevailing economic conditions had made the current wage inadequate for federal workers.
It maintained that a comprehensive review was necessary to address the rising cost of living and ensure improved welfare, productivity and efficiency in the public service.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Federal Government had inaugurated a committee in September 2024, to negotiate consequential salary adjustments arising from the National Minimum Wage Act, 2024.
