FCTA Begins Dualisation Of Apo – Wasa Expressway

News Investigators/ The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun the construction of main carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II.

The Minister of the FCT, Nyson Wike said during the inauguration of the project in Abuja on Wednesday, that the project would ease traffic congestion along the Apo to Wasa road corridor.

Describing the road as a “very important” project, the minister said that the when completed, the road would address the long hours spend on traffic by residents going to the city centre from that axis.

“You will agree with me that this road is very very important. In fact, before the Apo to Wasa service lane was constructed, you can only imagine when you are coming into the city, how many hours it will take you.

“It was very horrible, but I thank God we are trying to do all we can to give the people of FCT the happiness that they desire,” he sad.

The minister attributed the ongoing infrastructural transformation in the FCT to the purposeful leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

He explained that through fuel subsidy removal, the Tinubu’s administration has made financial resources available to 36 states and the FCT to pay workers salaries and carry out infrastructural development projects.

“If Mr President did not take that decisive decision, to say, this subsidy must come to an end, most states wouldn’t have been able to pay salaries. It would have been difficult even for the FCT.

“Tinibu’s leadership has made this possible. Every state now has money, not only to pay salaries, carry out other government activities, but also to embark on projects,” he noted.

According to him, Tinubu’s good, purposeful and visionary leadership is what the country needs to make progress.

Speaking on the planned resettlement of Apo Mechanic dealers and artisans from the road corridor to their permanent site in Wasa, the minister said the plan had reached advanced stage.

Wike disclosed that he had received the cost implications for providing the needed infrastructure in the new site from the acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority.

“So for us, every promise made by this administration under the leadership of Mr President, be assured that we shall fulfill the promise to the residents of FCT,” he assured.

Also, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud described the project as a bold step toward easing traffic flow, stimulating economic activities, and enhancing mobility for residents across the FCT.

Mahmoud argued that Tinubu’s leadership style constantly reminds Nigerians that “progress is built not only in policy but in the visible transformation of lives and communities”.
