News Investigators/ An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, ordered the remand of a 60-year-old man, Smart Agazie, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over alleged defilement of his stepdaughter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolara Kushanu did not take the plea of the defendant but directed that he remain in custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
She adjourned the case until April 1.
Mr Agazie, a businessman residing at the Eleja area of Badagry, Lagos, is charged with sexual assault and rape.
The prosecutor ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that he committed the offence at his residence in 2022 and also in September 2025.
According to the prosecutor, Agazie first defiled his stepdaughter when she was 15 years old.
He allegedly raped her again when she turned 18 years.
The prosecutor further stated that the victim, who had been threatened with death if she revealed the abuse, eventually spoke out, leading to the defendant’s arrest.
He said that the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 137 and 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
