EXPLOSIVES STORED BY ILLEGAL MINERS CAUSED IBADAN EXPLOSION – MAKINDE 

The Governor of Oyinkuro State Seyi Makinde has said preliminary investigations by security agencies have shown that explosives stored by illegal miners caused the massive explosion that rocked Ibadan, on Tuesday night.

The governor said two people died while 77 others were injured in the explosion contrary to reports that 

than 10 persons were feared dead in the explosion.

The explosion also affected several property including the governor’s office, secretariat, and Oyo State House of Assembly.

The Governor when he visited the scene of the explosion on Tuesday night that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice after investigation.

He said, “Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast. The investigations are ongoing. All those found culpable for this will be brought to book

“In total, we have 77 injured victims so far, most of whom were treated and discharged, and two fatalities. May their souls rest in peace and may God give their loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, He said

The governor promised that the state government would pick the medical bills of the victims of the explosion and also render necessary assistance to those whose houses were affected.

The governor who urged residents to be calm, said that that rescue operations had already started at the scene of the incident.

“Earth-moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security were deployed to the scene of the incident. The wounded and injured are being treated and moved to public and private hospitals within Ibadan,” he added
