News Investigators/ The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, has emphasised the need for the restoration of the old value system as a strategic approach to addressing insecurity across the Nupe Kingdom and the country at large.
The revered traditional ruler stated this on Thursday when he received a delegation from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji on a courtesy visit at the Wadata Palace in Bida.
The delegation was led by officials from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of Niger State, including the Director of Administration, Alhaji Abdullahi Uregi, and the Director of Finance, Alhaji Abdullahi Hassan Wasagi, who represented the Secretary to the Government of Niger State.
The Etsu Nupe stressed the importance of community policing and grassroots participation in strengthening the nation’s security architecture, noting that traditional institutions remain critical partners in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence.
He explained that the erosion of moral values and communal responsibility had contributed significantly to the prevailing security challenges, adding that the revival of discipline, respect for constituted authority, and collective responsibility would go a long way in restoring peace and stability.
The royal father further enlightened the visiting delegation on the structural organisation of the Nupe Kingdom, highlighting the strategic roles of district, village, and ward heads in maintaining order, resolving disputes, and fostering unity among the people.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Air Comr. Olamiju Olusegun-Obasa, Director, Development of Air warfare, explained that the visit formed part of the study tour activities of participants of the College.
Olusegun-Obasa commended the Etsu Nupe for his patriotic services to the nation during his distinguished military career and for his continued contributions to peace, stability, and national development through traditional leadership.
He also briefed the traditional ruler and members of his council on the statutory responsibilities of the College, particularly in the training of senior military officers and the enhancement of strategic leadership for effective national security management and development.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of the College’s souvenir to the Etsu Nupe by the team leader, while the royal father presented a basket of kolanuts to the delegation as a mark of honour, respect, and hospitality.
