Enugu To Pay New Allowance To Corps Members In Oct. – Mbah

News Investigators/ Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has said that the payment of new allowance to corps members serving in the state will commence by the end of the month.

Mr Mbah announced this on Friday, while declaring open the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course for corps members deployed to the state.

The ceremony took place at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu Local Government Area.

Although the governor did not disclose the amount involved, he reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of the corps members.

He advised them to build good relationship with the natives of their host communities and also familiarise themselves with the culture and language of the people.

He further advised them to see themselves as participants in a national project.

‎Earlier, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu, charged the corps members not to discriminate against anyone but respect the culture and traditions of their host communities.

Mr Ekweremadu also urged them to see the service year as an opportunity rather than mere obligation, adding that the experience they would garner would broaden their understanding about the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Chief Judge, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, represented by Justice Anthony Onovo, administered the oath of allegiance to them.

Ozoemena urged them to take great advantage of their stay in the state to prosper themselves.

In a speech, the state Coordinator of the scheme, Oluwakemi Awolola, disclosed that 2,101 corps members, comprising 983 males and 1,118 females, were deployed to the state.

Mrs Awolola applauded the State Government for its support and assistance to the scheme.

According to her, NYSC remains grateful to the governor for his unwavering commitment to the corps members’ welfare, security and general wellbeing.

‎”The various interventions of the state government have continued to create a more conducive environment for the successful implementation of the NYSC programme in the state.

“Of particular significance is the ongoing comprehensive intervention and overhaul of facilities at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Awgu as well as improved welfare support and allowance provided for serving corps members in the state,” Awolola said.

She advised the corps members to adhere to camp rules and regulations.

“Respect constituted authorities, while observance of the NYSC bye-laws is mandatory,” the state NYSC boss said.

‎She disclosed that the corps members would be equipped with knowledge, skills and mindset that would help them to make meaningful contribution to national development and their host communities during the service year.
