EKWEREMADU: EBONYI GOVT REACHES OUT TO DONOR’S FAMILY FOR SOLUTION

The Ebonyi Government has said that it is reaching out to  the family of Mr David Nwamini Ukpo, the kidney donor to Miss Sonia Ekweremadu, the daughter of Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
The

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr  Uchenna Orji said in a statement on Sunday that the State Government is making efforts at resolving the issue so that Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice can be released from detention in the UK.

He said that the state government is in solidarity with the Ekweremadus in their moments of trial.

The Metropolitan police detained Ekweremadu and his wife following statements made by Nwamini that he was not aware that he was moved to the UK to donate a kidney,

They are being held on the allegation that they trafficked the donor to the UK to harvest his organs.

The Information Commissioner urged the UK Government to be thorough in the handling of the case by considering the medical intentions of the Ekweremadus

“The state government is following the turn of events and twists which followed the medical intention of the former Deputy Senate President, over the health condition of his daughter,  Sonia.

“These circumstances led to the detention of the senator and his wife in the United Kingdom (UK).

“While we urge the UK Government to act progressively and meticulously and critically look at the intention (Mens rea) and the minds of the detained family and please give them the benefit of the doubt, we enjoin the public especially those with shades of opinions and surge of anxieties to remain calm as we hope to see light at the end of the tunnel.

“The State Government is reaching out to the family of David Okemini Ukpo from Ebonyi State, whose information to the Metropolitan Authority of UK orchestrated the criminal charge incidented against the Distinguished Senator and his wife.

“The State Government stands with Senator Ike Ekweremadu at this trial moment and hopes that the truth and nothing but the truth shall guide the outcome of the matter”.
