Edo Poll: Wike, Okowa Assure Ize-Iyamu Of Support

By Dipo Awojobi – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors in the South-South geo-political zone have assured the Edo State governorship candidate of the party, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of their support in the election slated for Saturday 10th September.

The governors disclosed this at a meeting of the national leaders of the party in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The meeting held simultaneously with the grand rally of the All Progressives Congress, which was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Present at the meeting were the Chairman of the National Technical Committee of the. PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi; Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin‎; Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; his Delta State counterpart, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, and the Bayelsa State Governor, Serike Dickson, who was represented by his deputy.

‎Also present were the state Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, and the party’s governorship candidate.

Governor Wike described the election as critical to the party’s structure in the region.

He said that the party must make sacrifices to ensure that its candidate is returned elected.

Wike, however, urged party not to be intimidated by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He said, “PDP is on ground in Edo. Therefore, do not be intimidated. We have come to give you the moral support so that you will emerge victorious.

“But you must be united and work as a team because this is your last opportunity.‎ Freedom is not easy to get. When you want to get freedom, you must make sacrifice. The election in Edo means making sacrifice and requires commitment.”

The governor also charged the party’s agents to remain vigilant ‎at the polling units.

On his part, Okowa said that the citizens of the state had been in pain for the past seven and half years and urged them turn out massively to vote for their freedom.

“Edo and Delta are brothers and we are waiting patiently to ensure that we control the two states. Those of us in the South-South are waiting patiently because we want to have a unified family,” he said.
