A source close told our Correspondent that Mr. Are was embarrassed by the development, saying there was a court order restraining DSS from ejecting the former DG.

“They acted contrary to the court order, it was as if they were on a vengeful mission,” the source who would not want to be quoted said.

“I think the DSS leadership needs to exercise restraint on this matter, Colonel Are (rtd) served this country meritoriously, we were retired on the same signal when we were not forthcoming on the anti-NADECO plots during the Abacha regime.

“And when Baba made him DG, he served very well too, and l’m sure Baba will not be happy with what is going on.” The source added

Col. Are, who was DG of the DSS from 1999 to 2007 under President Olusegun Obasanjo, had been up till December 31, 2015, to quit the house by the current DG of the agency, Lawal Daura.

It was not clear the reason why the directive was given.

Col. Are got the house under ther service rule which allows all retired DGs to live in official residence for their lifetime among other retirement benefits.

All the former DGs have been beneficiaries this extant provision and are enjoying it.

However, the former DG, it was further learnt. Approached a federal high court yesterday and obtained a court order restraining the DSS from forcefully ejecting him when it became obvious that the agency was determined to throw him out of the house.
