DAVID MARK CONGRATULATES THE NEW METHODIST PRELATE

…URGES PRAYERS FOR NIGERIA

A former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, on Monday, congratulated the new prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Archbishop Oliver Abah.

Last Sunday, Archbishop Abah of Benue Diocese garnered 90 votes to defeat his close rival the Most Reverend Amos Akindeko of Ogun Archdiocese, who got 87 votes, in a keenly contested election, to emerge the winner at the Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church.

Senator David A.B Mark, in a congratulatory message by his Special Adviser to Paul Mumeh, described the process of Abah’s emergence as a true test of participatory democracy.

According to Mark, Abah is an eminently qualified Clergy man to lead the people of God at this trying times.

He advised the prelate – elect to be magnanimous in victory by being a father to all, saying “you need all hands on deck to lead the Church successfully.

Senator Mark appealed to the Church to redouble its efforts to pray for intervention amidst the myriads of socio-economic and political problems ravaging the nation.

Senator Mark, however, observes that despite the daunting challenges especially security issues, God is always able.

“I urge you not to be deterred but rather be spurred into more, prayers for the peace, security and unity of the country “, he stated.

He challenged Christians that now is time to be more committed to prayers than ever before as the 2023 election gathers momentum.

Abah will take over the headship of the methodist Church of Nigeria from Archbishop Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche whose tenure ended on Sunday.
