Dana Air Grounds Aircraft After Skidding Off Runway At Lagos Airport

The management of Dana Airlines has grounded its aircraft, with registration number 5N BKI, after skidding off the runway at the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, on Tuesday morning.

It was gathered that the aircraft skidded off due to the wet surface of the runway caused by the early morning downpour in Lagos.

It was further gathered that the aircraft flew into Lagos from Abuja with 83 passengers with flight crew members onboard the aircraft.

Also, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has deployed investigators to the site of the incident.

However, in a press statement by the head, Corporate Communications, Dana Air, Kingsley Ezenwa, said all 83 passengers and crew onboard the flight disembarked safely without injuries or scare as the crew handled the situation with utmost professionalism.

According to him, the incident has been reported to the necessary safety agencies and the aircraft involved has been grounded by the airlines’ maintenance team for further investigation.

“Dana Air regrets to inform the public of a runway incursion involving one of our aircraft, registration number 5N BKI, which was flying from Abuja to Lagos, on Tuesday 23rd April, 2024. We are relieved to confirm that all 83 passengers and crew onboard the flight disembarked safely without injuries or scare as the crew handled the situation with utmost professionalism.

“We have also updated the AIB and NCAA on the incident and the aircraft involved has been grounded by our maintenance team for further investigation. We wish to thank the airport authorities, our crew for their very swift response in ensuring the safe disembarkation of all passengers following the incident and our sincere apologies and appreciation to the passengers on the affected flight for their patience and understanding.

“We wish to reassure our passengers that their safety will always be our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Ezenwa said.
