Dakuku in a statement issued at the weekend, decried the spate of attacks on Oyorokoto, , calling on the authorities to ensure that the Joint Task Force (JTF) Unit, is stationed in the area.

Oyorokoto is said to be the largest fishing settlement in the West Coast of Africa and is a strategic and most viable economic centre in that Federal Constituency.

“The spate of attacks and killings of innocent inhabitants of Oyorokoto must be brought to an immediate halt so that the settlement will continue to provide livelihood to the numerous fishermen and their family members who live and work so hard for a livelihood at the settlement.”

Dr. Peterside stressed the need for governments at every level to be alive to their responsibilities, primary of which is the protection of lives and property.

“Governments must not shirk their responsibility of safeguarding life and property of citizens; this is the primary responsibility of government everywhere,” Peterside stressed.

Dr. Peterside called on security agents to diligently track down the criminals behind the incessant attacks on the fishing settlement including all those who may be sponsoring the criminals to ensure that a final stop is put to their nefarious activities in the area.

He called on the inhabitants of Oyorokoto to continue to be peaceful and vigilant but refrain from resorting to any actions that may bring them in collision course with the authorities.
