Cultural Diplomacy: China, Nigeria Hold Ceramic, Art Exhibition

By John Bakare – The China’s Cultural Centre in Nigeria has held a culture and art exchange aimed at deepening further bilateral friendship between the two countries.Nigeria and China

The one-week event held recently at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja, parades contemporary Chinese ceramics and top porcelain artists who were on hand to share their expertise and experiences in ceramic making.

The Cultural Counsellor in the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Yan Xiangdong said this year’s exhibition jointly organised by the Nigeria China Cultural Centre and China Polaris Mines Co. Ltd, was of “special commemorative significance” because it was the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the strategic cooperative partnership between Nigeria and China.

According to Mr. Yan, it became necessary “in order to further deepen bilateral friendship between the two countries, showing “cooperation, development, win-win” good vision.

“Since ancient times, ceramic culture and art exchange activities have been the important China culture symbols and the ceramics capital.

“China ceramics has played an important role in the history of cultural exchanges between China and Africa as well as on the Silk Road.

The exhibition titled: “2015 China’s Ceramic Culture and Art Exchange Activities in Nigeria –Porcelain as the bond, across beyond the Orient” exposed participants to the whole process of porcelain production and works of top Chinese artist like Huang Chunman’s Yellow Emperor; Zhang Jingjing; Yan Fei; Gan Daofu; Jason Chen and Zheng Canhuang.

Other contemporary works on display were those of Shu Yan’s Bright moon; Yu Chengzhi’s Friendship in the snow; Sun Zhigang’s Impression of Africa; Zhang Xiaolan, country beauty and heavenly fragrance, Yu Jianjun –silver flower; Zhang Yushan, the changing of the moraine and Yu Zile, mountain colour.
