COURT GRANTS INTERIM FORFEITURE OF YARI’S TEN PROPERTIES IN US, NIGERIA

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered an interim forfeiture of 10 properties and funds belonging to a former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.

Mr Yari, is a major aspirant for the chairmanship position of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The properties are located in Maryland, United States, Abuja, Kaduna and Zamfara State.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order of interim asset forfeiture for 60 days following an ex parte motion by the Lawyer of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Osuobeni Akponimisingha.

The judge said the he had to grant the request on the strength of the motion of the ICPC and the evidence attached to it.

Justice Egwuatu stated that the order would last for 60 days to give the ICPC the opportunity to conclude its investigation on the matter.

The judge also ordered the ICPC to publish the order in Daily Trust and the Nation Newspapers to alert any member of the public with interest in the properties as to why they should not be forfeited to the government within 14 days.

The judge adjourned the case to April 28 for heating on the motion for final forfeiture
