Confab Okays State Police

Delegates at  the on going National Conference Thursday  unanimously adopted recommendation for the establishment of state police and community police through state law in Nigeria.

In addition, delegates adopted the proposal  that any state that desire it, shall establish a police force to be operated and run by the state.

The decisions followed the recommendations of the Conference Committee on National Security in which it commenced debate Wednesday but adopted today.

Conference agreed that the Federal Government should compensate communities destroyed during internal security crisis.

But, a proposal which seeks to bar men of the Nigerian Army from being drafted for electoral duties was rejected by the Conference delegates.

However, delegates adopted another recommendation seeking for a life insurance for all armed security personnel in the country.

Also proposal  for the establishment the Police Complaints Authority rejected, just as it also kicked against that the suggestion for the merger of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps with the Police.

During the debate on the report of the Committee on Wednesday Journalists covering the conference were ordered to move out gallery for closed session.
