Catholic Church Shooting: Osinbajo Receives Updates, Vows Perpetrators Won’t Go Unpunished

By Sadiq Umar – The Presidency says acting President Yemi Osinbajo has been receiving regular updates on the status of investigations regarding the violence yest at Ozubulu, Anambra State.

“Acting President has been in touch with Anambra governor, Willie Obiano, Police authorities and other security agencies,” it said in a statement.

“The AGP condemns the despicable act of violence, and commiserate with families of the victims and the people and government of Anambra.

“The acting President assures the perpetrators of the heinous act would be brought to justice,” it said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Garba Umar, has said that some suspects have been arrested in connection with Sunday’s killings at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, in the state.

Mr. Umar who spoke to journalists on Monday, however, said that the number of arrest would not be disclosed so as not to jeopardise ongoing investigation into the killing by yet to be disclosed gunmen.

Official figure put the number of death in the incident at 12 persons, with 18 others hospitalized for gunshot injuries.

Also, Anambra state Governor, Willie Obiano, in a state-wide broadcast said the suspects are being apprehended, assuring that justice will serve in the attack.

The gunmen had attacked the church while early morning Mass was going on.

The governor was also quoted as saying that the attack was not an act of terror but case of feud between two individuals from the same community.
