Buhari’s Second Term Guarantees Yoruba Presidency In 2023 -Osinbajo

Nigeria's Vice President
VP Yemi Osinbajo

(News Investigators) /Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has urged the Yoruba to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid, saying it guaranteed a chance for Yoruba presidency come 2023.

Mr. Osinbajo warned that the race may not have the chance to produce the president of Nigeria in a long time should they failed to re-elect Mr. Buhari in 2019.

The Vice-President spoke at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, during a courtesy call on Saturday.

Both the Igbo in South-East and Yoruba in South-West are eyeing the nation’s number one position at the expiration of the current president’s tenure of office in 2023 if he wins.

Mr. Osinbajo told his host that if Buhari fails to secure a second term, it “may take a very long time” for a Yoruba man to become president.

“The 2019 general elections is our own. We are not looking at the 2019 but 2023,” Osinbajo said.

“If we get it in 2019, Yoruba will get it in 2023. Because if we don’t get it in 2019, we may not get it in 2023 and it may take a very long time to get it.

“We need to look at tomorrow and not because of today. What we are doing now is for tomorrow and not for today.”

“Now, they (PDP) are regrouping. These are the people that have ruled for 16 years and they say they want to come back again. They are corrupt. Though, it is still difficult because no man or woman can build a house without a foundation.”
