By Jackson Udeani – The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu, the Enugu State capital has nullified the election of, Uche Ekwunife, as senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Mrs Ekwunife, who is currently the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream sector ), is being challenged by Chris Ngige, her main rival in the election who is now the Minister of Employment and Labour, as well as former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh.
In a unanimous ruling, Monday in Enugu, Justice Datijo Yahya, leading a panel of three held that the judgment of the earlier judgement of Anambra Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld Ekwuife’s victory, cannot stand.
He therefore ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election within 90 days.
