By Sadiq Umar – The National Youth President of the Buharian Culture Organization (BCO), Abdulhamid Dankyarko, has blamed the Secretay to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal for the current disturbing condition of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the N/east.

Dankyarko said the situation could have been avoided if the government had released funds to the Presidential Committee on North-east Initiative (PCNI).

BCO Youth President spoke at a news conference in Abuja where he alleged that the committee had not functioned effectively due to the delay by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“The BCO is worried that the unfortunate condition of IDPs could be avoided if only the SGF releases the file of the Presidential Committee on North-east (PCNI) to give them the mandate to get to work immediately.

“Therefore, we are calling on Lawal Babachir, the Secretary to the Government of Federation to please see the need to free us from this unnecessary administrative bottleneck and stop stalling the take-off of PCNI because we can’t play politics with lives,” he said.

Also speaking, the convener of Buharian Cultural Organization, (BCO), Miriam Yakubu Ikunaiye, said the PCNI had huge plans that included immediate, medium and long term plans to assist the IDPs.

She said President Muhammadu Buhari set up the committee as the apex body of the existing presidential initiatives on the North-east in response to the mayhem unleashed by Boko Haram.

She said the committee was to among other things, oversee and harmonise the functions of the various entities engaged in the North-east and fast track the work.

The SGF could not be reached as at the filing of the report.
